Anxiety and Its Roots : Bible Has Answers

Anxiety and the way out

Before knowing the roots, it is necessary to understand what anxiety is. Sometimes, the definition may contain the answer you are looking for. You may be surprised to know how silly anxiety is!

Anxiety is the tendency to overestimate the potential for danger.

Cognitive Theory of Psychology

I understand that it sounds silly and easy to avoid, but it’s not as easy as it sounds. To make that possible, you need to know some of the most common causes of anxiety and try to find a solution from there.

Let’s have a quick look at them. I’ll describe them briefly so you can know what you’re dealing with:

1. Anxiety from Incidents From the Past

Going through hard times may sometimes leave a mark on our minds. If something has gone wrong in your past and you find it hard to live a normal life after that, you must deal with it. If this feels relatable, the roots of your anxiety may be from your previous experiences.

2. Hearing or Seeing Something Disturbing

This one is almost like the first. But in this case, you see or hear disturbing things instead of going through a situation. If such things have affected you so badly that your anxiety kicks in whenever you remember them, this might be your root.

3. Anxiety from Phobia

Phobia generally comes under a different category, but anxiety is one of its symptoms. Being scared of any object, situation, or activity, otherwise known as phobia, generally starts at an early age. It is necessary to address it before things get worse.

4. Anxiety from Unhealthy Lifestyle

Unhealthy lifestyle is so common nowadays that telling people to live healthy is now a full-time job. Procrastinating work – only to be stressed on the last day, sleeping late – only to be late to the office, these things may sound normal. But subconsciously, this kind of lifestyle opens more doors to anxiety.

5. Environmental Stress

We are in a fast-paced generation with a demanding society. There are academic pressures, financial issues, social expectations, and many more that demand our constant attention. It’s okay to have a little stress now and then, but if that disturbs your day-to-day life for a long time, there’s something wrong.

FINDING THE SOLUTION

Half of the answer is in realizing who you are in the aspect of God. People often look at themselves as puppets or servants of God. But in reality, God counts us as his children and heirs. When you look at yourself as a child of God, your perspective of Life changes. You’ll start acting with authority and things that troubled you for years will look weak and small. This is the secret of a stable, strong Christian.

The other half lies in prayer and spending more and more time with God and His Word so much that you’re filled with the Word of God. Then you’ll start responding to situations with the Scriptures just like how Jesus dealt with the Devil in the wilderness.

REFERENCES TO MEDITATE:

  1. Romans 8 : 14-18
  2. Ephesians 1 (Full Chapter)
  3. Matthew 4 : 1-4 (How you shall react to the situations)

I didn’t give too much of a solution to make it easy to understand. I’ll be back with another post dedicated to overcoming these challenges. But for now, meditate on these verses prayerfully, and you should notice major changes. God Bless!
